Rebecca tells her sister-in-law Maria about the career of her nephew, Horace, and the new marriage of her niece, Miriam. She also critiques society's preoccupation with material wealth.

Rebecca tells her sister-in-law Maria of her first meeting with her nephew's newborn son, Gratz Moses, alludes to disruptions at the first national Whig convention, and suggests to discuss passages of scripture together. Her niece Sara adds a note with regards to Maria and her family.

Rebecca writes to her sister-in-law Maria about Caroline Murat's school, which Maria's charge Mary Boswell will soon attend. She also updates her on the health of family and friends.
