Rebecca writes to her sister-in-law Ann about how the family is adjusting after the death of her brother-in-law, Reuben Etting. She also updates her on how her niece Sara is settling in in Montreal and comments on Henry Clay losing the Whig presidential nomination to Zachary Taylor.

Rebecca shares with her nieces Miriam and Anna her thoughts about the rebels in Kentucky and the perilous situation throughout the country. She also offers to send the family anything they may need.

Rebecca tells her sister-in-law Ann about the visits of her nephew Howard Gratz and her niece Sara Joseph. She also informs her of her nephew Charles Etting's enlistment.
