Rebecca thanks her sister-in-law Maria for letting her husband Ben travel to Philadelphia to help mediate the conflict among their brothers. She also tells her how much the family has enjoyed Ben's visit.

Rebecca updates her niece Miriam on the health and travels of family and friends. She also asks if Miriam will accompany her husband to the presidential inauguration in Washington.

Writing to her aunt Rebecca, Miriam continues to worry about the health of her sister Sara's children and expresses appreciation for the spiritual leader at her synagogue.

Slowey tells her friend Rebecca of her sadness after the departure of her sister Sally’s family who visited for the first time in eleven years. She also teases Rebecca for her flight of fancy and implores her to come for a visit.

Rebecca tells her sister-in-law Maria of the education and health of Maria's son Howard, who is attending school in Philadelphia, and comments on the financial crisis in the country affecting family and friends as well as the Orphan Society.
