Writing to his aunt-in-law Rebecca, Solomon instructs her on how to disperse copies of Grace Aguilar's book and updates her on his children. Miriam adds a note and passes a letter along to her cousin, Henry Etting. After a visit from her brother Ben, Rebecca writes to her sister-in-law Ann, expressing relief at his safe arrival home. She also updates her on the health and travels of family and friends, discusses the current memoir she is reading, and reflects on the state of France before the French Revolution.

Writing to her sister-in-law Maria from Saratoga Springs, Rebecca critiques the social scene there and tells of the secret marriage of a young girl to a bishop's son, whose father officiated the ceremony.

Rebecca thanks her sister-in-law Maria for letting her husband Ben travel to Philadelphia to help mediate the conflict among their brothers. She also tells her how much the family has enjoyed Ben's visit.

On the occasion of her brother Simon's illness, Rebecca tells her sister-in-law Maria about the cold reception she had when she visited him. She also updates Maria on various family members. Her brother Hyman adds a note to their brother Ben about business affairs.
