Rebecca, with a note from Becky Hamilton [O'Beirne], writes to her friend Harriet about a city-wide sickness in Baltimore, her sister's distressed mental health following the death of her daughter, and musings prompted by the moral dilemmas in the novel, St. Leon: A Tale of the Sixteenth Century (1799).

Writing to her sister-in-law Ann, Rebecca comments on the family members' financial situation amidst the Panic of 1857 and shares news of her nieces' families. She also mentions the Foster Home's upcoming fair.

Writing to her sister-in-law Maria, Rebecca shares her thoughts on a book of correspondences she is reading, updates her on events at the Orphan Asylum, and comments on issues at the Medical School in Philadelphia. She also includes greetings from her servant, John.

Rebecca sends well-wishes to her friend Margaret (Peggy) and informs her of her planned trip to New York to see Maria Fenno Hoffman.
