After a visit from her brother Ben, Rebecca writes to her sister-in-law Ann, updating her on the health and travels of family and friends.

Writing to her brother Ben, Rebecca shares her relief that Kentucky is peaceful and her concern about their niece Miriam's family in Savannah. She also updates him on various family members, including the death of their nephew David Gratz, and comments on the effects of the Fremont Affair on the Blair family.

Rebecca tells her niece Miriam of the final days of her friend Julia Hoffman and entreats Miriam not to send her son Gratz to the Confederate army.
