Rebecca Gratz to Maria Gist Gratz - July 31, 1831

Rebecca updates her brother Joseph on news of their family and friends while he is Hamburg, Germany. 

A letter dated August 26, 2002, from Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, to Dr. Elie Wiesel, Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University. Mayor Bloomberg acknowledges receipt of Dr. Wiesel's recently published book, *The Judges*, and expresses his anticipation of reading it. He commends Dr. Wiesel for his "continued commitment to ensuring the memory of the Holocaust does not fade," highlighting that Wiesel's teaching, lecturing, and writing provide a "firsthand testimony of the horror of the Holocaust." The Mayor concludes by stating that Dr. Wiesel's dedication to upholding human rights is an inspiration and extends best wishes for his endeavors. The letter bears a "received" stamp dated September 16, 2002.

Writing to her niece Miriam, Rebecca praises her for her beautiful letter. She also remarks on the death of Miriam's baby niece and shares that Miriam's cousin recently lost a baby as well. Lastly, she shares that Miriam's cousin Horace fondly remembers her.

Rebecca writes to her sister-in-law Maria about the health and future plans of family and friends, the newest literature, and progress in transportation. She also mentions her nephew's excitement about the visit of Maria's children.

Miriam writes to her aunt Rebecca, telling her of her son's sickness and the marriage of her nephew Gratz Ashe Moses.
