Solomon writes his aunt-in-law Rebecca about the dissemination of Grace Aguilar's work and tells her of his children and their personalities. Rebecca's niece, Miriam, adds a note, discussing the visit from her brother Simon's family.

Margaret (Peggy) tells her friend Rebecca of her visits with friends and the 4th of July celebrations in Trenton. She also discusses her love interest and the pros and cons of matrimony.

Maria Edgeworth sends a letter through a friend to introduce herself to Rebecca. She hopes to start a correspondence with her after the death of Rachel Lazarus whose critique of her novels and long friendship led to a rethinking of her attitudes toward Jews. She asks Rebecca for a cherished book and inquires about her opinion of her novel Harrington.

Rebecca writes to her brother Ben, describing in detail the consecration service of the newly built Congregation Mikveh Israel in Philadelphia. She also gives him updates on family and friends.

Rebecca thanks Kitty, her cousin once removed, for her note following a visit in Philadelphia. She politely rejects Kitty's high opinion of her, but at the same time praises her young friend's character.
