Miriam writes to her aunt Rebecca, telling her of Daniel Webster's visit to Savannah and her opinion on a candidate to fill a position at their synagogue.

Rebecca updates her brother Ben about the health and character of his sons, while they stay with her in Philadelphia. She also discusses recent deaths in their social circle and international politics. Their brother, Joseph Gratz, adds a note concerning the federal bank and buyable stock.

Rebecca tells her sister-in-law Ann about the death of her niece Isabella Etting and that her niece Sara moved to Philadelphia to be near her mother after the death of her sisters Rosa and Ellen.

Writing to her sister-in-law Maria, Rebecca expresses her disapproval of the lynching of a free Black man, Francis McIntosh, in St. Louis. She also updates her on the upcoming marriage of their niece Sara Hays.
