Rebecca writes to her niece Miriam to announce the safe birth of her sister Sara's son, Horace. She also gives updates on the health and travels of family and friends.

Rebecca continues to console her brother Ben, comments on the rebellion in Kentucky and female activism on behalf of the South. She also apprises him of family news including the difficult situation of the Mordecais.
